PLA Alliance

The Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL) links learning and work. CAEL works at all levels within the higher education, public, and private sectors to make it easier for people to get the education and training they need to attain meaningful, secure employment. With a membership of over 600 colleges, universities, corporations, labor unions, associations, and individuals, CAEL is headquartered in Chicago and also maintains offices in Denver and Philadelphia. More information is available at www.cael.org.

Now through our on line portal LearningCounts.org students and adult learners can take "CAEL 100: Prior Learning Assessment Theory and Practice" and learn how to develop a portfolio of their prior learning acquired through their lives. This portfolio will then be evaluated by a qualified faculty member for possible college credit.

For over 40 years, The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) has been the most widely trusted credit-by-examination program, accepted by 2,900 colleges and universities and administered in over 1700 test centers. This rigorous program allows students of a wide range of ages to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material in introductory subjects and earn college credit. Students can earn credit for what they already know by getting qualifying scores on any of the 33 examinations. The exams are designed by more than 600 faculty members across the country to meet national score standards recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE).

The American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit for formal courses and examinations taken outside traditional degree programs.

For decades, colleges and universities have trusted ACE to provide reliable course equivalency information to facilitate credit award decisions. Participating organizations include corporations, professional and volunteer associations, schools, training suppliers, labor unions and government agencies, with courses from Arabic to Waste Management.

ACE CREDIT provides solutions for adult learner, workplace, and higher education challenges.

Three ways for adults to get the college credit they deserve

Prepare a Portfolio

Students can document their learning and have an expert faculty member assess their portfolio of work and learning to determine how much credit it is worth.

College Board Tests

There are many subjects which have exams available to students so they may “test out” of taking a class.

ACE CREDIT Evaluations

Many corporate and military training courses, apprenticeships, and certifications have been evaluated for college credit. Adult learners may already be eligible.
